Invocando a Quetzalcoatl

Arte dedicado a mi querida amiga Amberlina . Ella me pidió su personaje con el famoso dios prehispánico, y pues ya entrado le puse más detalle del esperado porque me gustan mucho esos temas. Aunque admito que mi libertad de combinar personajes antropomorfos con cultura sigue siendo un gusto más personal. A lo mejor un día hago naguales o más dioses, je, je..


Quetzalcóatl es el Dios del viento y la civilización y quizá la deidad más importante de los toltecas, mayas, aztecas y en general cultura mesoamericana, su nombre náhuatl significa “Serpiente emplumada”.
Su historia cruza las líneas de la fantasía, mito y realidad como pocos.

Se dice que en los orígenes del tiempo, él y su hermano Tezcatlipoca cazaron juntos al gigantesco monstruo Cipactli y lo estiraron o mutilaron para crear el mundo con sus montañas y lagos. Para compensar este acto Tezcatlipoca exige sacrificios humanos pero su hermano siempre odió y rechazó toda ofrenda humana sangrienta. Con esto y otras cosas ambos se volvieron eternos antagonistas y rivales.
Estos hermanos representan una dualidad como el día y la noche (y como el Yin / Yang).

Quetzalcóatl siendo un Dios pacífico y benévolo le dio prosperidad a su pueblo con sus enseñanzas y conocimiento volviéndose muy querido por todos por un largo tiempo, más su hermano lo embriagó y cometió un terrible acto que terminó obligándolo al exilio. Antes de irse le dio esperanza a su gente con la promesa de un futuro regreso, volviéndose con esto en una especie de Mesías.

Luego de un largo tiempo y por extrañas coincidencias el Conquistador Hernán Cortés llegó a las playas haciéndoles creer a Mayas y Aztecas que su venerado Dios había regresado, pues también es representado como un hombre blanco barbado.
Su nombre es visto y usado por varios reyes en particular por los Toltecas.

Tema aparte, ¿Alguna vez vieron la película animada “El Camino hacia el Dorado”? Bueno, los guionistas se basaron y combinaron parte de esa magia y fantasía del mito, pues la Gran Serpiente no es otro sino Miguel (Revisen y luego me dicen).


PS.: Y para aquellos que me escribieron y siguen preguntándose: No, no estoy hablando de un monstruo que se convoca en juegos de Final Fantasy y ¡¡él NO es un Pokemon!!

Summoning Quetzalcoatl

Art to my dear friend Amberlina , featuring her character with Quetzalcoatl. She told me how much likes this prehispanic God and so here is; and no worries she´s not a sacrifice or so; but... uh… are they having a chat? You know, in those times there wasn´t MSN or internet. And I like the idea thinking of her as a white priestess.


About him:
Quetzalcoatl is the god of wind, civilization and maybe the most important God in the Toltec, Teotihuacan, Mayan, Aztec and Mesoamerican cultures. His name means feathered serpent.
His story across the lines between myth, fantasy and reality…

It is say in the beginning of the times he and his brother Tezcatlipoca hunted the gigantic monster Cipactli and ripped it apart to create the world, but in compensate that act Tezcatlipoca wants human sacrifices while Quetzalcoatl hates bloody offerings, that´s was just one of the points to make them rivals and eternal antagonists.
Those brothers represent duality like the light and the dark (like Yin and Yang).

Quetzalcoatl as a pacific God brings prosperity to the human people with his teachings and knowledge becoming a much loved divinity for a long time, but was his own brother who framed him to commit a terrible sin and finally to obligate the exile himself. Before go away the feather serpent gives a hope to his people with a future return becoming with this in a sort of messiah.
After a long time and with estrange coincidences conqueror Hernan Cortés arrives making believe to Aztecs & Mayans the awaited return of the God who is also represented as a beard white man.
The name was view & used by several kings especially in the Toltec civilization.

Point apart, do you saw the animated movie “Road to el Dorado”? In this film the story comes with a little of the magic & fantasy of the myths because this smiling wise serpent is no other than Miguel.


PS.: And for those still asking themselves: No, I´m not talking about a Final Fantasy Summon Monster and he´s not a Pokemon!!! I mean it!!
